Weekend Warrior Workout: Making the Most of Limited Time
Get fit even with a busy schedule by maximizing your weekend workout sessions.
Why Your Daily Step Count Might Be the Most Underrated Part of Your Skin Routine
We talk a lot at Face FX about serums, treatments, and in-clinic protocols — but one of the simplest, most effective things you can do for your overall health (and your skin) doesn't come in a bottle. It's movement. Specifically, walking.
The Case for Extra Steps
You don't need a gym membership or a punishing training block to get real benefits from exercise. Something as accessible as increasing your daily step count has been consistently linked to:
- Better cardiovascular health — regular walking supports heart health and healthy blood pressure
- Improved circulation — which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to skin cells
- Lower stress levels — chronically elevated cortisol is linked to inflammation, breakouts, and a dull complexion
- Better sleep quality — and sleep is when your skin does most of its repair work
- Mood and energy — movement supports the release of endorphins, which is a simple, free mood boost
If a structured workout feels like a big ask on a busy day, aim for movement snacking instead: a walk after lunch, parking further away, taking the stairs, or a loop around the block during a phone call. Small additions add up — many health guidelines point to somewhere around 7,000–10,000 steps a day as a useful general target, though any increase on your current baseline is worth having.
Sun Safety: Don't Undo the Good Work
Getting outside for a walk is great for you — but Australian UV levels mean sun protection needs to come with it, every time, regardless of cloud cover or season. A few non-negotiables:
- Wear broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen on all exposed skin, reapplied every two hours if you're out for a while, and immediately after sweating
- Seek shade where you can, especially during peak UV hours (typically 10am–4pm)
- Wear a broad-brimmed hat to protect your face, ears, and neck — areas that are frequently missed
- Protect your eyes with UV-blocking sunglasses. UV exposure to the eyes is linked to long-term risks including cataracts and other eye damage, so quality, UV-rated sunglasses are worth wearing outdoors, not skipping
- Cover up with lightweight, UPF-rated clothing where practical
Sun protection isn't just about avoiding sunburn today — consistent UV exposure over time is one of the biggest drivers of premature skin ageing, pigmentation, and skin cancer risk. Every walk is a chance to protect the results of your in-clinic treatments, not undo them.
The Takeaway
You don't have to choose between an active lifestyle and great skin — they go hand in hand, as long as sun protection is part of the routine. Small, consistent movement plus consistent sun safety is one of the most cost-effective "treatments" available, and it supports everything else we do for you in clinic.
